Atlanta residents: read this AJC article. A stop sign was missing for more than a year up around Chamblee. The one person interviewed for the story said she called the appropriate office twice but got no action.

So the AJC calls the appropriate ofice, and the situation is promised to be promptly looked into. Woot! The article’s closing words: “Vowing to serve the citizens of DeKalb [County], Glover said he would dispatch an inspector the same day we called.” Hey, he’s gonna have someone go inspectorate! Promise!

What kind of bullshit is that? “Vowing to serve?” For years, the Metro section of the AJC has been little more than a copy machine for police blotters and press releases. But “vowing to serve?” Did he raise his right hand and swear on the Bible? Was it properly notarized?

How about instead of vowing to serve us DeKalb County residents, he just get off his ass and start serving? Will there be a follow up next week to let us know whether or not he’s followed through on his sacred vow?

But then look at the photo in the story. It’s a stop sign! The caption:

A Chamblee resident called Take to Task about the Seaman Way street sign at Admiral Drive that had been missing for more than a year. The Admiral Drive sign rested precariously on the stop sign.

I’m confused. Are we to infer from the photo that the sign has been replaced, though there is no indication of that in the story? Or is it an old photo, from before the sign was missing? Or is the sign missing from another corner at that intersection?

And what’s with the talk of the “precariously resting” Admiral Drive street sign? Is this a second signage problem at this intersection? Or are they trying to let us know that the County replaced the stop sign but then futzed up the street sign in the process?
