Lessons from a parking garage in OKC

04.12.03 | Comment?

Over several days of visiting grandma in the hospital, some trends emerged. Keep in mind that there are one million people in the Oklahoma City metro area–so parking garages are common in office parks and high traveled parts of the city. But perhaps its possible to refuse to adapt.

  1. Parking garages are scary.
  2. Parking garages–even when they provide more, easier parking–are bad.
  3. During the middle of the day when the parking garage is most used, it is a good practice to slowly crawl from one parking spot to the next looking for a vacant spot on the bottom floors.
  4. It is far better to park on the far side of the bottom floors than to park on the top floor next to an elevator.
  5. The elevator in the parking garage only takes you to other floors of the parking garage–not floors in neighboring buildings. But it never hurts to try.
