Sauron was trying to take away the freedom of the peoples of Middle Earth. Is Bush doing the same thing? Is taking away the freedom of a corrupt and dangerous government truly evil? OK – so I just set myself up for the comment that some people think the US is corrupt and dangerous. But, are we as corrupt and dangerous as Iraq? Is the current administration making up the stories of Iraqi horrors? It seems to me that Saddam Husein is a very bad man and his regime puts the US at high risk. One thing is for sure. The current technology of weapons means that wars can’t be fought on old terms. The idea of preventing Saddam from hurting us before it happens might sound a bit like “Minority Report” … but, what if none of the war-talk had ever happened? Would we have been the victims of an attack from Saddam or terrorists he’s funded? If so, wouldn’t we all wish we’d gone to war?
Probably not. But we have far more power and therefore far more potential for corruption. (Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.) When all is said and done, the US is far more capable of unleashing horror than Iraq, even though Hussein has a wretched track record and seems to be a couple beers short of a six pack. Therefore, the US deserves higher scrutinity than Iraq–especially from its own citizens, out of loyalty.

Agreed. But how can we scrutinize our country if the media is corrupt, politicians are corrupt and the general public really has no idea what’s going on…
no way to know who out there has the facts, is there?

Simple.
We take it upon ourselves to educate the young people of this country, what priciples our country was founded on (And I don’t mean GOD!) I mean freedom.
Too many of us have grown up thinking the government really knows whats best for us, and just don’t care or too lazy to find out the truth!!
Rememeber, America is a government of the people for the people and BY the people.. It’s time we stop thinking that this right ends on election day and holding our elected officals responsible for their actions!
But I think the comparison between Bush is Sauron and Sauron helps us imagine the greed and lust for power of those in the Bush administration. (IMHO). This came home when I saw the Frodo Failed bumper sticker recently. Here is a link to it:

The additional benefit is that most likely, even GW can understand the comparison.
