Kung Fu Monkey: I’m not afraid

His kung fu is stronger than the terrorist-terrorized:

I am absolutely buffaloed by the people who insist I man up and take it in the teeth for the great Clash of Civilizations — “Come ON, people, this is the EPIC LAST WAR!! You just don’t have the stones to face that fact head-on!” — who at the whiff of an actual terror plot will, with no apparent sense of irony, transform and run around shrieking, eyes rolling and Hello Kitty panties flashing like Japanese schoolgirls who have just realized that the call is coming from inside the house!

Are Unitarians “vague Hindus?”

Peacebang asks if we Unitarians have become “vague Buddhists.” A People So Bold! isn’t buying, and Lo-Fi Tribe renews the case for a vibrant religious humanism. I wonder if UUism more closely resembles Hinduism.

We Unitarians try to practice an open, practical, religious pluralism, and the gold standard of religous pluralism is Hinduism. It makes room for a wide variety of theological stances: monotheism, panentheism, monism, polytheism, and even atheism. (Hindu theology is even more diverse than the textbook Hindu diverity usually found in intros.) If you throw in that “Hindu heresy” known as Buddhism, you’ve got nontheism too. Stuff I’ve been reading this week from folks over at The Daily Scribe:

Camassia follows up on the Mel Gibson fiasco, exposing his lame excuse: “I don’t believe myself to be a bigot; therefore, I did not say anything bigoted.”

Are Unitarians still religious humanists or have we become “vague Buddhists?” Lo-Fi Tribe asks, “Why would not a properly thinking humanist NOT consider religion to be EVEN MORE IMPORTANT if it IS truly a product of human rather than divine revelation?” And A People So Bold! isn’t convinced we’re vague Buddhists in the first place.

Lo-Fi also releases his tempting new theme “Slopbox.”

So Bold! also points us to the Cherokee Nation of Mexico. I had no idea.

Boy in the Bands starts an open thread for the-gay-and-ordained.

On the science and religion front, Mindful Mission points out that the head of the Human Genome Project is a Christian.

And, finally, Yet Another UU finishes up his excellent series on teaching kids to be religious.

Scolding Lieberman

From Salon.com commenter Beedee:

I really don’t see an indy run materializing for Joe, much less being successful. He was a three-term incumbent with a $12 million dollar warchest and 100% name recgonition. The only advantage he didn’t have was the support of the voters…

Secret report from Lieberman’s command bunker

At no small cost to himself, Gen. J.C. Christian, Patriot, snuck past neo-con security to get into Lieberman’s secret “no bloggers allowed” headquarters. A bone chilling tale.
