I’d like to know what Ayatollah Robertson, in his wisdom, thinks about this one. Does he believe that Sweet Baby Jesus is punishing the Gulf Coast for its poor education funding, high teen pregnancy rates, and Republican voting tendencies? Does he believe the people who already have died did so because of an angry god’s wrath at their sinfulness?
Methinks he does not. Unless they were homosexuals. Or liberals. Jackass.
I’ve got ten bucks here for whatever reporter asks him as much (and sticks it to him) on video. I’m sure that’ll happen. Pussies.

About one in eight girls in a certain Ohio high school are pregnant.
The article reported that some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame.
School officials are not sure what has contributed to so many pregnancies…

…prophets arise when human beings seek to be in right relationship with each other, and find the social and political arrangements of their time to be corrupt, violent, and dehumanizing. The prophetic woman or man being an embodied person will experience these dysfunctions as immoral, as violations of their deepest values, and respond with anger. Being human they will respond emotionally, and convey that raw, irrational emotion to all who behold their witness. Rage not rational calculation is the mark of the prophet. And because of that emotional response, she will tap into the anger that lies in the hearts of many of her contemporaries who will experience the prophet speaking for their deepest values, their ultimate concerns. They will experience her as embodying their own anger and hatred for wrong doing, corruption, and misuse of power. And she will call forth many others to prophecy.
It is all so messy and so unpredictable. No well managed search committee would choose such a person.

As I mentioned last year, my wife Emily has Crohn’s Disease, an autoimmune disorder that eats away at the digestive tract. After several trips to the hospital emergency room (including New Years Eve 1999/2000), she was finally diagnosed and a foot of her colon was removed. Since her surgery, she has had to change her diet and lifestyle, take a constantly changing salad of medications, endure regular tests, and monitor herself for "flare ups" and blockages.
Each fall the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America organizes regional walk-a-thons to raise money for research. Atlanta’s walk will be September 17, and we will both be participating.

My fair city just enacted an "aggressive panhandling" ordinance that prohibits verbally requesting money. (Passively holding a sign, however, is still permissible.) Controversy has of course ensued.
