Swapping blog engines

02.05.04 | 4 Comments

I’ve been thinking of switching from MovableType to WordPress for MyIrony’s engine. I’ve installed some anti-spam software here, which has helped, but I can’t seem to install it for my work website (which also uses MT). Here’s why I’m thinking of switching:

  • WordPress is less popular and is therefore less likely to be a target of comment spam. Sort of like Macs being less likely to get viruses than PCs.
  • WordPress has a built in comment moderation feature, which means I get to see all comments before they go live on the website. That means no more ads for penis pills on my work website each morning.
  • WordPress, like MT, works with Zempt.
  • WordPress runs on php instead of perl, which means quicker response times, less drain on my server, and no rebuilds.
  • WordPress comes with an MT import utility that pulls in not only posts but comments and trackbacks.
  • WordPress, like MT, has trackback.

On the minus side, I don’t really have time to do this right now. (For some reason I only want to do major site overhauls when I’m already too busy.) MovableType should be coming out with version 3.0 this summer, which should have more anti-spam features, so maybe I should wait. What do you think? Should I make the switch? I hope to install it this weekend and give it a good test run.
