That one’s a line from “Georgia on a Fast Train.” “I got all my country learnin’/ Milkin’ and a churnin’/ Pickin’ cotton, raisin’ hell and balin’ hay.” There’s another one from that song too but I can’t bring it to mind…
I put it in for my dad, who picked cotton on the off season as a kid. (They were very poor dirt farmers.) But this suburb-raised Okie wouldn’t know how to bale hay if it walked up and licked him. (That’s what hay does, right?)
