He's trying to either get a cheap laugh from folks that don't like Southern Baptists or bait Southern Baptists into outing themselves in the bar (thereby showing that they're bad Southern Baptists). I used to hear it now and again growing up when guys were indulging their inner jackass in public (something I approve of, btw, when done in moderation). In those cases, it's also used to tell whoever is getting onto to them to feck off. He’s not Southern Baptist at all.
