I used to have a copy of the Randolph Bourne Reader, but I didn’t go through the whole thing. My hunch, though, is that he wouldn’t have said something like that.

Sun, 01 Aug 2004 14:42:34 +0000http://www.makingchutney.com/posts/2004/07/19/back-to-irony/#comment-878I am trying to find the source of a quotation which many attribute to Randolph Bourne to the effect that “if you are not an idealist by the time you are twenty, you have no heart, but if you are still an idealist by the time you are thirty, you have no head.”
I question whether he, who was such an idealist, would have said this. If you are familiar enough with his writings, I’d appreciate your pointing me to the source, if there is one. The problem with all the quotation web sites is that they quote from one another, rarely provide sources, and tend to attribute a saying to the last person who used it, rather than to the originator.
Thanks
EdP

When I started, I didn’t have much for innocence, purity, etc., but I was angry as hell.
