For example, companies have to disclose relatively unimportant things like directors’ compensation, but not the ‘chinese box’ structures of their holdings. Even then transparency itself (e.g. requirements of politicians to declare sources of finance) doesn’t seem to appreciably alter political realities. Thus it’s perhaps a necessary, but not sufficient condition of real global (or even local) democracy.
