Worrying is to a great extent self-indulgent and the happier you are, the less time you spend worrying. When you worry less, you have more positive energy to share with other people, including the poor, should you cross their path. Surely the poor need human kindness and respect as much as they need money. Being happy and sharing happiness with others can help give them the energy and hope they need to make a positive step in their lives.
I once thought about giving away all my money to the poor too. But then I thought, God loves me too, doesn’t he? (Because, of course, God is a “he” when you feel guilty…) Does he want me to be miserable, guilt-ridden and without the happiness of things money can buy? Would you wish that on someone else? If not, why would God wish it on you?
