Sidebar–I don’t know how it feels to have to defend a faith. Christians seem more plagued by this than other faiths.
I first came upon discussion of the “Foundation” thru a series of links (the abyss of the internet). The Sharlet expose was intriguing. A good piece of fiction or perhaps an eye opening look into a world unlike I’ve ever read. Lately anyway. Is it believable?…Hell yes. Just as believable that the two men who are vying for my presidential chad are alumni of the Yale society known as the “Skull and Bones” or Bones and Skull? Anyway, having a discussion about a faith-based group always seems to provoke emotional retort, defense and reaction, especially if their agenda is in question. Hey, we all have an agenda…to keep breathing. I’ll probably keep tabs on them as they pique my interest (also Opus Dei). To me there’s always an agenda when a large group exists under the radar.

]]>1. Every politician wants public esteem: otherwise they wouldn’t be elected. I think you’ll agree that a politician who says otherwise is a liar.
2. I don’t think all politicians are bad. Probably, most are a little good and a little bad, depending on what day you run into them. My support for Howard Dean for President stems largely from my hunch that he’s a good politicans.
3. The Harper’s article does not “attack” the Family. I will grant, though, that it’s a bit of an expose. The challenge to the Family. then, is to provide verifiable facts that are contrary to the Harper’s article.
4. My own personal jury is still out on the Family; I have not made up my mind. However the jury comes ends up coming down on this one, however, I would still assume that the majority of those involved with the Family are good, caring people. But that is not the issue for me. Organization full of good people can be thwarted by leaders with evil intent.
